The Last Night Before the Flight
From the deskThe final evening of an Amsterdam trip has a character of its own, with the suitcase half packed and the sights all ticked off, and it is often booked longer.
By the last night, the list is finished. The museums have been seen, the canals walked, the bike returned, the souvenirs bought. The suitcase is open on the floor, half packed. There is nothing left to do but rest, and many visitors decide that the last evening of the trip is the one to book properly.
Why the last night
A few days of sightseeing accumulates. The first evening, after a flight and a walk, visitors are tired but still excited. By the third or fourth evening, the tiredness has built up and the excitement has worn off, and the prospect of a long evening in the room with nowhere to be the next morning is suddenly very appealing.
How long
This is the evening visitors book two hours, or three. Some book an overnight of eight hours when the flight is in the afternoon and there is no need to be up early. A session of three hours or more, and every overnight, carries a deposit of half the fee paid ahead; the remainder is settled at the door.
If you are moving to an airport hotel
Some visitors spend the last night near Schiphol, to be close to an early flight. A booking at an airport hotel is arranged separately from the city: the time her journey out there will take is agreed with you in the thread before anything is fixed, and the booking carries a deposit of half the fee. Put the hotel's address, your room number, and the time of your flight in the message, so the booking can be planned to leave enough sleep.
Booking ahead
If you know from the start of the trip that you want the last evening booked, you can arrange it in advance. A booking made more than twenty-four hours ahead carries a deposit of half. If plans change, more than twenty-four hours of notice returns the whole deposit, and one free move to another date within fourteen days is allowed if you ask before that point.
The room on the last night
Finish the packing before she arrives, or at least close the suitcase and move it out of the way. Clear the bed, turn the heating up, switch on a lamp. Put your passport somewhere you will find it in the morning, and the balance where you can reach it.
After she leaves
Set two alarms. It sounds obvious, but the last night of a trip, after a long session, is when visitors sleep more deeply than they have all week. If the flight is early, a booking that ends by eleven leaves enough time to sleep.
Before she arrives
Check the time of the airport train or taxi, and put the next morning's clothes out. That way the evening is not interrupted by practical thoughts, and there is nothing to do afterwards but sleep. Visitors who leave everything until the morning often find themselves packing in a hurry, which undoes the quiet of the night before.
Checking out late
Many hotels allow a later departure on request, especially midweek. If your flight is in the afternoon, ask at reception the day before. An extra couple of hours in the morning makes a long evening booking on the last night much easier to enjoy, because the alarm is no longer the first thing on your mind.
A note in the thread
Say it is your last night and roughly when you have to leave in the morning. It helps the booking to be planned around your sleep, and it tells her the kind of evening you have in mind: slow, unhurried, the end of the trip. What the session includes remains her decision, explained before she begins.
Last evening, first booking
Some visitors book for the first time on the last night, having thought about it all week. That is common and entirely fine. A first booking carries a deposit of half the fee, paid by card, Revolut, Wise or cryptocurrency once the hour is agreed, and the rest at the door. Write it in the afternoon, so the reply has time to say who is free before the evening starts.
The overnight page describes the eight hour format, and the booking page sets out the order of messages.
