When a booking counts as false
A false booking is one made in a name not the client's own, from someone else's number or profile, as a prank, or any of those followed by a no-show.
The term has a narrow meaning here, and most guests will never come near it. A booking is false if it meets any one of four tests:
- it was placed in a name that is not the client's own;
- it was sent from a phone number or profile that belongs to someone else;
- it was sent as a prank;
- one of the three above was followed by a no-show.
What does not count
A missed appointment alone is not a false booking. A guest who booked honestly and then fell asleep after a long day, or was still out when she knocked, has made an ordinary cancellation, handled on the notice scale like any other.
The record kept
Where a booking does meet a test, or a visit is ended because a limit was pushed, the house keeps a short internal note of the date, what happened, and the name and number used. It is held for twelve months, seen by nobody outside the house, and consulted for a single reason: whether to take another booking from that name. How to object to it or ask for it to be corrected or deleted is explained on the privacy page. Where the facts indicate a criminal offence, the house may report it to the police.
